About San Pedro

San Pedro sits on Ambergris Caye, Belize's largest island, and its appeal is simple: warm Caribbean water, an easygoing island pace and the Belize Barrier Reef just offshore. Days here tend to follow the sea, with a morning snorkel, an afternoon on a dive boat or a fishing trip, and a long lunch near the sand. Where the resorts differ is in mood. Matachica Beach Resort and Spa and Playa De Sala Boutique Hotel are both adults-only. Matachica sits north of San Pedro and pairs an infinity pool with a separate salt-water pool, while its Seafront Luxury Suite adds a plunge pool and hot tub. Playa De Sala, the one five-star among our San Pedro resorts, has an infinity pool with sea views, a restaurant and a bar with a happy hour. Families are well served at Las Terrazas Resort, which has a kids' club, an indoor play area and babysitting. Self-catering is easy to arrange. Royal Caribbean Resort has cabins and suites with kitchenettes, Las Terrazas Resort has villas and condos with kitchens and private entrances, and Coco Beach Resort has kitchens in most suites, villas and penthouses. When to go

San Pedro has a tropical climate with a drier season and a wetter one. The drier months, roughly December through April, bring sunnier skies and are a popular time for diving, snorkelling and beach days. From around June to November the weather turns wetter and more humid, with passing showers, and this is also the Atlantic hurricane season, so flexible plans and good travel insurance are sensible. Late spring and the edges of the wet season can offer a quieter island, with warm water year-round. Our booking agents can talk through timing for your dates.

• Matachica Beach Resort and Spa and Coco Beach Resort are both north of San Pedro, so ask our agents about transfer arrangements before you book. Matachica has a free airport shuttle, and Coco Beach offers airport pick-up and drop-off.
